Could you seek out stories from 100-year-old newspapers?
A wealth of stories about Surrey life in the Great War can be found in Surrey’s local and county newspapers for 1914-1922. We need volunteers to work through digital copies of these newspapers, extract such stories and record them in a spreadsheet.
Output: The list of stories that you uncover will be placed on the project website and form a resource for researchers and other interested parties to use. Interesting or unusual stories might be the subject of further research and/or used in the project’s talks and displays.
Location: Flexible. This task is ideal for those wishing to work from their own computers at home. It can also be carried out at Surrey History Centre, Woking, or at another local history centre.
We hope that you will have –
• Interest, enthusiasm and accuracy
• Willingness to participate in volunteer training
• Basic computer skills or willingness to learn these
• Willingness to respect copyright restrictions
