Do you have a flair for technology? Would you like a hands-on role?
Creating lasting and accessible digital resources is a key aim of Surrey in the Great War. The project’s website will be a portal through which people worldwide will be able to view and interact with information collected. Digitisation also secures an image of an item or document for the future, helping to offset loss or damage.
Digitising (by photographing or scanning) Great War-era photos, images and documents and uploading them to our website is a crucial task. We have the equipment and can show you how to use it, so please let us know if this role appeals to you. We also need volunteers to travel around the county to photograph Surrey’s war memorials and other things relevant to its Great War history.
Output: digitised material will be valuable to many of the project’s outputs, including books, the website, learning resources, apps and exhibitions.
Location: digitisation kit is available at Surrey History Centre, Woking. Volunteer photographers are needed across the county!
We hope that you will have –
• Interest, enthusiasm and accuracy
• Willingness to participate in volunteer training in digital technologies, scanning, photography and safe handling of archive material
• Basic computer skills or willingness to learn these
• Willingness to respect copyright restrictions
