Sergeant Mornington Tickner, born 1897 in Peaslake, Surrey, was one of four brothers who fought on the Western Front during the Great War. Sergeant M. Tickner was killed in action on 15 September 1916, age 19 years. No. 3 Company, 1st Battalion Coldstream Guards, went into action near Ginchy in the early hours of 15 September during the third phase of the Battle of the Somme.
