Jack Edwards was born 1883 the son of Mr & Mrs George Edwards of No. 2, Heaths Cottages, Weston Green, Thames Ditton, Surrey. Jack started out in golf as an assistant to Philip Gaudin the Professional at Fulwell Golf Club in London. He was elected a member of the PGA in 1906 Southern Section. In 1910 Edwards was appointed as the Professional at the Thames Ditton & Esher Ladies Club where he remained until 1913.
Jack moved north later on in 1913 to take up the post of Club Professional at Sandwell Park Golf Club in Staffordshire where he would remain until enlisting in the 12th Battalion The Rifle Brigade in the autumn of 1915.
At the time of his death on 15th February 1916 Lance Corporal Jack Edwards service No. s/8072 was age 33 and is commemorated at Ypres Menin Gate Memorial to the Missing Panels 46-48 and 50
