I am researching the men of the Queen’s Westminster Rifles & collecting photos of them. I have these postcards sent by Arthur Leonard Marsh to his sister Ettie in Woking, posted from Hemel Hempstead in 1914. The photo showing 4 men sitting on the grass was taken at Bunker’s Farm near Leverstock Green where Arthur’s A Company were billeted. I believe Arthur is the man 2nd from the left; he also appears in the second group photo standing at 1st left. The 3rd photo does not have any writing on the back but clearly shows the same man as in the other 2 photos & all 3 have the same pin hole top centre of the card which would indicate all 3 were possibly pinned on the same board at one time, maybe by his sister, obviously I cannot say with 100% certainty yet that this is Arthur but I believe it is more likely than not him. I would love to have this confirmed one day if possible!! Sadly Arthur was killed in action at Gommecourt on 1 July 1916 & is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial. All 3 cards came to me at different times over the last few years.
