Albert James Lawrence: Army Service Corps Driver

ALBERT JAMES LAWRENCE was my grandfather and served throughout the entire 1st World War and returned unscathed after the war ended. T/34123 Private Albert Lawrence joined prior to the war starting in the Army Service Corps and was employed as a Driver and served the Indian Meerut Reserve Division, mainly in France. Towards the later part of the war he transferred, or was transferred, to the 2/22 County of London Battalion (The Queen’s) and served in Mesopotamia until the end of the war. As an after note, when home on leave he would ‘refresh’ himself in the Dog and Pheasant pub in Brook and this is where he met my grandmother who was a barmaid there.
