Epsom and Ewell Borough

In 1914 the parishes that now make up Epsom and Ewell Borough came under two different rural and urban district councils which were responsible for matters such as public health, housing and sanitation and took on many additional responsibilities during the war such as food control.

  • Epsom was administered by Epsom Urban District Council.  Minutes and other records of the Council for the war years are held at Surrey History Centre under the references 6000, 6040, 6053 and 6717.
  • Ewell and Cuddington were administered by Epsom Rural District Council.  Minutes and other records of the Council for the war years are held at Surrey History Centre under the reference 6070 and 2308.
  • Ewell had its own Parish Council which dealt with more local matters.  Records for Ewell Parish Council for the war years are held under the references 3832 and 6000.
