Previously enlisted with the West Yorkshire Regiment in 1899 but resigned his commission in 1902. He was a farmer/dairyman in 1911. Was in Canada at the outbreak of the war and enlisted in Quebec. He went into the Royal Canadian Dragoons before transferring to his old regiment. There is conjecture whether he died on September 25 or 26, 1915. He left three children, Joy, Geoffrey and Edward.
