Type
Event / Lecture, talk or reading
Location
Guildford, Surrey
Date
29/06/2018 - 29/06/2018

This project aims to discover and share the stories of the county’s people and places during the 1914-18 conflict. Thanks to commissioned research, volunteer work and community contributions, we have been piecing together what life was like for civilians left on the Home Front in Surrey, looking at a variety of themes: the role of women; rationing and food shortages; Home Front defence tactics; Surrey’s many war hospitals; and much more… This talk will look at the project’s discoveries so far, with a focus on local stories, showing the impact of the First World War on the town and its people. The project was commissioned by Surrey Heritage and is supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund.
